He has performed over 48,000 open-heart surgeries, has been awarded the Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri by the Indian government, and served as the President of the International Society for Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery. He is also the founder of the Escorts Heart Institute and Research Centre.
